Let me start by saying I do hope we get Jon Gruden. I want that magical moment to happen. But I’m approaching it with a heavy amount of cynicism, hence my reluctance to jump on the band wagon.
However I doubt, sincerely it will happen.
That out of the way the mood around the fan base has been dark. From the seats on the outside looking in, its almost morose. It’s one of the few times I have been relieved that I do not live within the inner circle of the Tennessee state boundaries. I may be tempted to jump in to the river if I did.
So with no further adieu, here’s a list of 5 coaches whom most of the fan base has probably never heard of who I think would make a great hire by Dave Hart, but will never be hired. Unlike Gruden, there is no way in Hades they’ll ever be our coach. But a mhuire, it would be a bloody blast if they did!
Feel free to chortle, poke fun, groan, shake your head and just wonder “What the bloody Hades?!” in the comments as I play the fool. That’s what this thread and article is for to relieve some stress and get back to being what we are: Tennessee Volunteers!
So this is a little self advertisement to folks who I thought may and or may not be interested. A magazine that I helped found, and that I’ve been working with for the last year is finally going to print. Pre-orders are now available.
I’m not asking everyone to run out and buy it (although I won’t lie that would be awesome) but pass the word if you would be so kind to folks, and let them know that our magazine is out there and is available to those whom would be interested.
We have put a lot of time and work in to it, and while the subject matter may not be something that everyone I know enjoys I figure at least a handful of ya’ll might be interested (College Football). Here are some of the magazines features:
116 full color pages of nothing but the Vols.
99.9% ad-free.
Written by Vol fans for Vol fans.
Available as a print version, a Kindle version, and a download-able e-book.
If you are one of the many folks who prefer to have digital format, we will be on Amazon.com for PDF and Kindle systems.
If you’re local and you actually think it might be worth while I’ll even sign the durn thing for you. Who knows maybe I can become the next Bill Simmons (doubtful, but a guy can dream can’t he?)
Meanwhile I appreciate your help, I hope everyone is doing well and if you do decide to buy the magazine I hope you find it enjoyable!
My thanks to Joel , and the rest of the guys at RockyTopTalk for giving me the invitation to participate in this dream opportunity!
Before I go to much further let me first give kudo’s to Tony Basillo, Jayson Swain, Erik Ainge, and Wes Rucker at the station. These guys have been pounding the callers and fighting the ignorance every day this week. You can hear the disbelief and frustration in their voices.
I have been trying to keep my temper in check, but I just can’t keep it in check any longer. I won’t post this on RockyTopTalk because this sort of vitriol doesn’t belong there.
There comes a time when you need to just grab someone by the shirt collars and shake some sense in to them.
I’ll be the first one to say I grew very impassioned at the end of last nights game. My reaction last night, as Chris justifiably pointed out, was over the top.
My reasonings I think are sound: Georgia did not defeat us last night, rather we beat ourselves.
Aristotle once wrote that it is the mark of a educated man to entertain a thought without accepting it.
So lets look past our passions, mine included, for a moment shall we?
With a Internet handle like mine you get to have a little creative licensing on how you title articles. Especially when the article pertains to ones predictions on players for the up coming season.
Totally apropos of nothing, and with little to no technical background, knowledge, formal data or engineering ability I decided to rattle off what I consider to be the Five players whom I think will be our Zephyr‘s, or players who will work deep in hostile territory, create plays, and otherwise be the sleeper agents of our 2011 Tennessee Volunteers line up.
So come on! Drink the Dool-Aid! Kick back! Grab a cold frosty and join me as we embark upon the yellow brick road of fandom, as we take our third of five trips towards my 2011 breakout player predictions.
At the end of the year we can compare my totally inane, and completely without any rhyme or reason for picking these guys against the experts and we can all point and laugh at me together.
Ben is a big ol’ boy.
There just ain’t no denying that at 6ft 2inches and 251 lbs he’s a fella you don’t want to meet in a dark alley.
But his accomplishments list like a resume of good ol fashion grid iron proportions.
He throws shot put (Why’s this important? Have you SEEN a shot put? Substitute “shot put” for “Skull in a Helmet” and go from there.)
Won the 2007 Shut Put Championship (Please see above)
2007 Wrestling Champion
So the question is Can he catch and carry a football?
Well if his high school days are any indicator, yes, he can.
Rushed for career high 162 yards in 2007 season opener against Antioch
Lead blocker for pair of 1,000-yard rushers and carried ball 57 times for 406 yards as senior
Also caught 13 passes for 145 yards and two touchdowns
As senior, had more than 100 tackles
Tallied 19 tackles for loss, six sacks and three forced fumbles as junior in 2006
With Luke Stocker gone from the backfield this is going to be Ben’s chance to step up and make something beautiful happen.
I think he has the tools, I think he has the talent. The only thing in his way? Mychal Rivera.
Look for Batholomew to compete for this role, and I won’t be surprised to see him on several plays. When he does I expect big things out of him, start or not.

But it’s July. Next month is August. It’s almost time. My heart beats faster just thinking about it.
As Volunteers, we have struggled this past year. Our last seasons have been anything but story book. Dooley however, has indeed made a difference, and I think anyone who bleeds orange and white can agree with that.
It’s been a tough time being a Vol lately.
Basketball program on the rebound. Our Athletic Director gone. It’s not been easy and it seems like the hits just kept coming.
Channeling my inner Dennis Hopper today….BS
It builds.
Deep inside like a medieval drum beat, pounding it’s way forward. Up the side walls of its concave structure. A giant funnel blasting forth fear, anxiety, screams of joy and pain at decibels only rad about, if not experienced first hand.
That transient locomotion that drives you to watch, to cheer, to scream your fool head off like some haunted banshee. To pray, wish, cry, and feel like nothing you participate in can ever measure to this feeling, this instance, this one moment in time that brings you above all else in your life. Bray drops back. He stops. he snaps his wrist forward like a snake, long arms reaching. He reminds you of the Gumby doll you had as a child. Taller, and twice as resilient, ducking and weaving through defenders. The snake of an arm snaps, the ball takes flight. Your job, your bills, your work, your family, your wife, your husband, all take a back seat to this moment. In this one instance, you become part of something magical.
Going to be a very busy day from the onset. I’ll announce the results as soon as I have them. As the esteemed Ralph Waldo Emerson once said “It was a high counsel that I once heard given to a young person, ‘Always do what you are afraid to do.’”. Thusly today I go forth to do what I have been afraid to do thus far.
Meanwhile don’t forget to join me tonight via the RockyTopTalk Podcast as we talk Missouri State University and University of Tennessee Basketball, coaches and other points of interest.
Ya’ll be good, and try not to spill anything on the carpet will ya?
Well actually it’s some infamous blogger who just happens to blog about sports occasionally and the guys of RockyTopTalk!
Yes, friends it seems my part time gig at RockyTopTalk just got pushed to center stage thanks to my even more recent affiliation with Missouri State University.
Or more precisely since University of Tennessee hired away MSU’s Basketball coach Cuonzo Martin, I’ve been asked to toss some information regarding our adventures in Basketball etc out here in Bear-land.
Many thanks to Joel for the opportunity, and as this will be my first live PodCast with a studio crew I’ll try not to embarrass myself, our few but loyal reader base here at RegisteredEvil or the Bears
Language warning, for those of you sensitive to such things,
Before I start let me say this: What Jackson did was inexcusable.
The Late hit by Tomlinson? Also poor.
However.
WHAT KIND OF MONKEY MOLESTING GOAT HUMPING REFEREE DECLARES THE GAME OVER THEN STARTS IT AGAIN!?!?
WHAT IS THIS?? !)@#$%^ LITTLE #$%^&*( LEAGUE!?
Big 10/Big12 what ever the fuck they call themselves, their referee’s are neither Legends or Leaders.
!@#$%^&
For that bone headed, inane, candy ass, pathetic, lousy excuse for play calling both in the UT vs UNC and the KState vs Syracuse games, the Big10/12 (which in either figure probably represents their combined IQ) Officiating crews earn the last What a Weasel Award from 2010.
I wrote this in October of 2007 over at Techography. I’ve since posted it here for Archival reasons, and because the game is upon us once more. Enjoy! – BS
If you are a fan of Tennessee or Alabama football there are two rules to live by: Don”t get married on the
third Saturday in October, and try not to die — because in either case, the
preacher might not show. For the first
time since 1988 the Third Saturday in October will not be
televised.
My dignity shredded.
My ego lie in tatters.
I have been splattered across the Internet for the world to point and cackle at.
My only hope is that my perverse brand of sarcasm managed to salvage a moral victory from my destruction.
Which given my bizarre inclinations…… it probably didn’t.
