I have a Xbox Live Account.

I can’t download anything with it, unless I go to their website.

I can’t stream movies because they don’t support my Internet Service Provider.

I can’t access their Marketplace unless I go to their website.

And I can’t play on line against my friends.

In laymans terms? It’s like owning a car and being told that because the tire doesn’t fit I need to replace my car.

So what do I think about this Rate Hike?

Good morning and greetings to all. My name is Jon and a while back Bloodspite invited me to guest post at his place when I felt the urge.
Yesterday I was at a PX and I saw an Army Times newspaper that had a story about the newest Medal of Honor game having the option to play as Taliban and shoot at Army Rangers. I’ll admit, when I first saw it, I just about lost my mind and I was reaching for duct tape to wrap my head as so a cleanup wasn’t needed in Isle 2. Now that I have taken a step back and looked at the issue from a couple of different angles, taken a few deep breaths, and read the opposing view, I have to say this.

Electronic Arts has the right to put out any product that they want, I plan on making sure I don’t buy anything from EA again, even though I like the Madden Series and was looking at getting Dragon Age Online for the PC.

For years my friends have asked me to go and see 3D movies.

I have always declined. I felt like the odd man out because I could never see 3D. It looks like a jumbled blur on the screen no matter what kind of 3D glasses I used, what kind of prescription glasses I had, or if I used contacts. No combination produced palatable experience.

For a long time I figured, it was just me.

According to vicious rumor, Facebooks addictive web game, Mafia Wars is to be made in to a full length feature film.

I must confess I play this game occasionally. I even have a Facebook account (something I swore for years I would not do until being blackmailed by armed midgets who represented persons from my past that is otherwise classified).

Having experience in both I figured I would attempt to portray how the movie will probably go.

the-saboteur-box-artI don’t play what I call war games.

I was in the Army too long, and I have personal reasons for not playing things like the famed Rainbow Six series, or the varying shades of Ghost Recon, etc. Lets leave it at that, so we don’t get off topic shall we?

I can justify playing games that have something to do with history however, times that I and no one I know had anything to do with the military.

The Saboteur is one of these, and probably the best one I have encountered.

So I have signed up and am a participant with Evoke.

You will more than likely start seeing some Twitter posts coming from regarding it.

What is Evoke?

Well, to be honest I am not entirely sure myself.  It is a little bit of everything that I can see.

The game will have 10 missions over 10 weeks. However, calling it a game is really a misnomer.

The game was developed by the World Bank Institute.  Not exactly Electronic Arts, heh.

Essentially it is a alternate reality, or so says CNN.

The goal is to pit real world issues in to the gamers hands, and see what solutions they can devise to solve problems like environmental degradation, lack of food, water scarcity, poverty and violence.

The game is focused more towards Africa, however anyone can play, and it is free.

Think of it as a social simulation writ large, instead of a mere video game. More Civilization than SimCity.

Either way I can tell you it is interesting, and it challenges you to think. I already completed my first mission which was to Knowledge Share ad idea behind innovation.

The game isn’t for the shallow, in my opinion, and I would certainly challenge others to take a look at it as well.

If you do join.  Feel free to look me up.

For years now we have heard the rantings.

I’ve always liked this quote:

Computer games don’t affect kids, I mean if Pac Man affected us as kids, we’d all be running around in darkened rooms, munching pills and listening to repetitive music.
Marcus Brigstocke

A few things have come to light since PC World released coverage on the Most Violent Video games ever made.

But as usual it is interpreted in multiple ways.

A Recent study showed a level of desensitizing of boys after playing violent video games.

What it did not do was compare the video games to other control groups such as, the nightly news, movies, or television.

That being said, Kieth Stuart says the study is flawed from the outset

Cognitive neuroscience is a complex field – it is perhaps not something to be prodded and poked at during a piece of realty TV voyeurism masquerading as documentary material….…if just 20 minutes of exposure is enough to turn normal boys into desensitized monsters, our streets should be filled with violence. They’re not.

Indeed. The numbers may be in his court on that one. Science Daily not long ago released a study showing that children tend to play video games for over 9 hours a week.

However studies are still not conclusive in either direction. While this author will admit having a bit of bias in the argument, he will go so far as to say he looks forward to conclusive studies that do comparisons across the baord.

Meanwhile a group called ProCon, has established a forum regarding Video Games, to act as a clearning house of information in the argument.

One hopes that maybe from the large amount of information that is designed to create a specified result maybe we can come up with a level unbiased result.

In the meantime the best thing to do to keep your 8 year old on track from being a mass serial killer after playing Grand Theft Auto?

Start being a parent and take it away from him or her.

Yes I got it.

The very nice UPS Man brought it to me yesterday. I had pre-ordered it back in July you see. The Collectors Edition even.

I won’t tell you about the last 48 hours of trials and tribulations where I fought with EA’s customer Service and support website. I won’t bother you with the details of receiving my shipment tracking numbers after I received the game itself from the very nice UPS dude.

What I will tell you is….

Oh. My. Gawd.

Mass Effect 1 put me in a state of bliss, the plot well done, the game ply fluid, the graphics absolutely gorgeous.

Mass Effect 2 has put me in euphoria.

I have rarely seen sequels that can top the first version.

This does.

I have rarely wanted to play a game so badly that I stand by the door waiting for the big brown truck to arrive.

I did this time.

It has been absolutely years since I have found a game that I actually debated putting up a poster on a wall of my home.

With this series..I probably will.

BioWare has completely and absolutely placed themselves on the very pinnacle of the gaming industry, out doing even famed RPG publisher Square Enix insofar as I am concerned.

Consider me, an official fan boy.
