O.K.  I have no motivation for working today, and I am swamped…so here goes:

For Profit Education – A First Hand Experience

The other day I reprinted an article regarding my going to a for profit university.

Given that for profit education is going under fire today via a senate hearing I thought it appropriate to write this now.

Quote of the Day, September 30, 2010

He who hesitates is a damned fool.

Mae West

In reply to “Three Old Friends”

As I read BloodSpite’s post of the three of us, I couldn’t hold back a few tears.  My wife thought it was cute…

Today, and for the past few days I haven’t stopped thinking about it.  In middle and high school, we three were inseparable.  We have seen a lot in our days.  We saw the use of Pagers, and beepers rise, and fall.   We used the first cell phones, watched them get smaller and smaller, then bigger and bigger, (I still don’t understand why).  We’ve seen our share of  hard times, and good.  We have seen many girls, and in some cases, we’ve seen each others girls, but that’s another story.

We were three misfits, as it were, and maybe that’s the reason we found such closeness.  We started out as “nobody’s” and ended up Kings of our school.  Heck, we even raced cars a bit.

I can recall one day in our senior year, we all left school early, and raced back to Calimus’ house, weaving in and out of traffic, and I almost lost it and hit Bethany Bridge….but alas, I was the best driver in the world, (in my own eyes).  And the time of BloodSpite’s Brouha on Peoples Valley Rd’s railroad tracks.

Dang, we were indestructible!  We lived without a care in the world, Kings..

I wonder…

If we’d have met today, for the first time, would we like each other?

If you look at all our lives after High School…you wouldn’t find 3 other lives that were as different.  I guess that’s what makes us such good friends.  Its not where you are, or where you’ve been…its who knew you before you were you.  That’s what makes true friends, knowing someone for so long that no matter what happens ion your life, when ever you happen to meet up with them later in life, there is still such a strong bond that nothing else matters.

I guess seeing that old picture stirred up some kind of mushy sentiment, whatever it was, I can say that I am very fortunate to have such true friends.

Quote of the Day, September 29, 2010

There is nothing so absurd but some philosopher has said it.

Choose Wisely – Online Education

(I first wrote this on August 21, of 2008 at Techography.. For some folks it may be very useful. For others, maybe not so much. Most of what I wrote here I still agree with. The numbers are no longer accurate, and I am in fact pursuing my Bachelors currently. Some of this however…not so much. But I’ll write about that later this week if I get time. -BS)

One thing I was concerned about when I started back to school was accreditation. And as recent News Reports show, its a serious issue.

The very first school I went to, after High School, was North Metro Technical Institute, now called North Metro Technical College. At that time they were unaccredited. They have since became so, is my understanding. But essentially what I learned there does me no good because the education I received was unaccredited at the time. Hence when I went back to school for the second time, I chose a college that I knew for a cold stone fact was accredited: University of Tennessee.

While I would have dearly loved to have graduated from there, the military didn’t let that happen.

Quote of the Day, September 28, 2010

Given that my vacation is over and today I had to return to the grind, I found this appropriate

I despise the pleasure of pleasing people that I despise.

Lady Mary Wortley Montagu

Three Old Friends

Today I received my copy of my high school year book. It was the last copy the school had, and over a decade later than everyone else’s. Words from a man long since gone, and to me directly that I never got a chance to read are on its pages. I will never forget.

But within it is another story, as that one is for another time.

I had been looking for this picture for some time.
I had contacted Calimus because I could have sworn he had a color copy of a picture similar.

V00d3w also did not have one.

Quote of the Day, September 27, 2010

In science, ‘fact’ can only mean ‘confirmed to such a degree that it would be perverse to withhold provisional assent.’ I suppose that apples might start to rise tomorrow, but the possibility does not merit equal time in physics classrooms.

Stephen Jay Gould

Quote of the Day, September 24, 2010 TGIF Edition

Here you go lads and lasses. I’m on vacation until Tuesday but I’ll be around! Peace!

I told the doctor I broke my leg in two places. He told me to quit going to those places.

Henny Youngman

Best thing to do since its a Friday?

Just Let it Ride!

Die Mädchen der Wiesn

Given our quote today I thought I’d spread a little temptation

is that time of year again when the noble Germans hold a celebration that was probably created by an Irishman.

It has been several years since I was in Germany, but Yes my friends I mean Oktoberfest.

When a good Germans gaze turns to beer, and girls, and beer, and girls, and girls and beer and …..maybe an occasional bratwurst.

Just for fun and to help us get through the week I figured I’d share some girls, and beer, and girls, and beer and…

oh to hell with and just keep reading….it’s relatively safe for work….save for that whole lack of production thing. And wipe the drool when your done.

O Lord, help me to be pure, but not yet…

Quote of the Day, September 21, 2010: Birthday Edition

Seeing as how today is my day I’m picking one of my favorite historical people for the quote.

You can pick yours on your day.

Because your own strength is unequal to the task, do not assume that it is beyond the powers of man; but if anything is within the powers and province of man, believe that it is within your own compass also.

Marcus Aurelius

Time is a sort of river of passing events, and strong is its current; no sooner is a thing brought to sight than it is swept by and another takes its place, and this too will be swept away.

Marcus Aurelius

And some music

For those having a hard time with the accent here’s the original artist version.

But like any other day work must be done. Time used, errands performed. So save for you my friends my time with you is what has made it special.

See ya’ll tommorow

Robin Trower – Bridge of Sighs

How about a song?  Yes? Good….

If you don’t know who Robin Trower is, Shame on you!  If you like Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughn, and the likes, well, you should already be familiar with this man, as they are all on the same level….

Robin Trower – Bridge of Sighs

Georgia loss to Arkansas

Well, we did our best, but in the final minutes, it wasn’t enough.  Although it was an exciting game, at the end, where it seemed to count the most, we fell short.

I will say this:

Our offense, defense, and passing improved 110% from the previous game against South Carolina, and with the way the team is after multiple arrests and suspensions, I call that a win.

The quarterback, Murray passed (literally) with flying colors.

The defense held their own after getting into a much needed grove.  I was impressed.

And even though we lost, I am very proud to be a Dawgs fan, because through all the adversity, and the trials and tribulations, we played a hell of a game.
