Old Bloggers, staying the course

Thanks to the wonders of Twitter I was able to reestablish contact with a blogger whom I had not “spoken” with in quite some time.

Venomous Kate of Electric Venom is indeed still at her venomous best

Given the large amount of bloggers whom have vanished in to the folds of Facebook for instant gratification, it’s nice to find another blogger who survived the BlogBoom of the mid 2000’s.

Drop in and say Hi will ya? Tell her I sent you.

The Pen is Mightier than the sword

but the sword speaks louder and stronger at any given moment. So wrote Leonard Wibberley, Irish author whom authored the comic novel “The Mouse That Roared”

It seems the Supreme Court agree’s to a point.

Speech is powerful. It can stir people to action, move them to tears of both joy and sorrow, and—as it did here—inflict great pain. On the facts before us, we cannot react to that pain by punishing the speaker. As a Nation we have chosen a different course—to protect even hurtful speech on public issues to ensure that we do not stifle public debate. That choice requires that we shield Westboro from tort liability for its picketing in this case.

I feel sorry for their children. Hate breeds hate as the saying goes.

Any reader of Milblogs has heard of the Westboro Baptist Church from nearby Kansas. They love to protest military funerals, shouting such charming phrases as “God hates Fags” and “God Bless IED’s”.

And there’s more…

Holidays Round Up

So a Lot of bloggers had some great Holiday posts up this past week, and in to this week.

With 2011 peeping around the corner I thought I’d round up some of my blogger friends, and personal favorites from the last week or so:

CWBill had a good one for the Denizens crowd

Harvey has a Wal Mart story

Grim hosts the Feast of Stephen…..and Snow

Serenity plays with her Christmas toys

Eric has been snowed in

Lex addresses right to life. Not ironic, or unfitting given the time of year.

Doc Russia posts regarding how a Russian met American muscle.

Teresa’s geekiness took over

Laughing Wolf and the Blackfive platoon have some tips on Holiday giving as well as suggestions

My home away from here, Rocky Top Talk, is going over the upcoming Vols versus Tarheels Bowl game

SarahK discusses the wonders and tribulations of new found motherhood

John D requests lawyers and money.

Grau presents the wonder of Liver Dumplings…just like grandma used to make. Well…maybe his grandma.

T1G and Zman request glasses from Santa. Hey dude I’ve been stuck with them for years.

Anyone I missed? Add yours here! Track-back to your hearts content and I’ll update the links, or leave it in the comments. Either way hope you had a good holiday, and from all of us here at Registered Evil, have a Happy New Year!

This image, without the Happy New Year part, will be available in our Cafe Press shop the first of the year!

Has Facebook ruined Blogging?

Stolen from Harvey!Several years while I was still writing at our sister site of Techography, Calimus wrote an article entitled Are Blog’s killing the Net?

Having been writing online since the mid 1990’s we never coined a term such as “blogging” or even acknowledged that what we were doing was a “blog” until almost 2002. We just did what we always did, put technology, personal stories, and other whatnot online as a clearinghouse of information. It was fun, it was unique.

It’s not really that way anymore, however is it?

IM’s from the Edge

For a long time at Techography we ran a segment called IM’s From the Edge. A Play on the movie Postcards from the Edge.

In that case we took IM’s that had been carried on between staff, readers and friends and posted them.

In this instance however v00d3w has crossed the line.

In Tennessee tradition I have remained civil, polite even. Such is the spirit of a gentleman’s wager.

Then today happened.

v00d3w(8:26:28 AM): btw
(8:26:41 AM): are you gettin yer singin voice ready?
bloodspite (8:28:48 AM): You really don’t want me to stop being polite on the website do you? -.-
v00d3w (8:28:54 AM): lmao
bloodspite (8:29:04 AM): I mean I did put up a nice unbiased post today. Which is rare for me
v00d3w (8:29:07 AM): polite is for women :-)

The gloves come off my friends. At least for this weekend.

After All….

This is SEC!

Chicken Bloggers

Hooked up with Grau and Rave/Cordovan last night. Hadn’t seen Grau in going on two years, but him living in the roaming incarceration state of Illinois in the cellblock west of Chicago does make regular visitation a challenge.

We went to a local institution, rehab center restaurant that is rather popular called the Monte Ne Inn Chicken

I am happy to report that the happy couple is….Happy! And by the time the night was over well fed

Although Grau and I seem to pick up immediately where we left off in Chi-town when we met at Og-Fest forever and a day ago.

The entire night we kept making the same decisions…..at the same time…even down to food choice.

It was disturbing, especially to our dates who began looking at us funny to which we responded by looking at them funny. Conversations regarding swinging steel, and kilts with breezes did nothing to placate the matter at hand.

We did however attempt to decimate 3/4 of the chicken population of Arkansas, and I tried to cause a Apple Butter shortage. It took the wrecker driver a good 30 minutes to figure out how he was going to extricate Grau and myself from the booth much to the girls dismay whom were trapped at the wall seat.

The drive out to the Wilderness Camp retreat did nothing to assuage poor Rave to the idea that I am a hermit, backwoods recluse who lives in the middle of nowhere. She has now confirmed that I am a hermit, backwoods recluse who lives in the middle of nowhere….with excellent tastes in friends :)

That said we determined we must get together more often, Grau threatened to beat me if I don’t at least make an effort to get Contagion‘s Beer Tasting. (Quick Every one buy something from the Registered Evil store so I can afford a plane ticket!)

All in all it was an excellent time, and I think we had fun.

It did remind me that a Bad Example Family Gathering is well over due.

Harvey? To where shall we gather good sir?
